📋 Legal Provisions & Rights

Flat Rental Rights: Fully authorized to sign 1-year residential leases for any condo in Johor Bahru.
Utilities & WiFi: Open utility accounts (electricity, water) and high-speed fiber broadband contracts directly using your passport.
Multiple Entry: Exit and re-enter Malaysia as many times as you like (unlimited causeway crossings to Singapore).
Local Bank Accounts: Bank accounts are highly restricted on a PVP nomad pass. Use Wise or multi-currency debit cards linked to your Indian accounts for local transactions.
West Malaysia Limits: Permits living in Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan. Entry into East Malaysia (Sabah/Sarawak) is restricted to tourist visits only.

⚠️ Operational Caveats (Do's & Don'ts)

182-Day Tax Residency Rule: Staying in Malaysia 183 days or more makes you a local tax resident. To keep your tax simple (paying only 6% in India and 0% in Malaysia), ensure your cumulative stays in Malaysia remain under 182 days per calendar year.
Contract Age Rule: Your remote IT service contracts must have commenced at least 3 months prior to submission. You cannot apply with a newly signed contract.
Local Work Barred: You cannot work for local Malaysian employers or invoice local companies in MYR. All clients must be offshore.
Spouse Work Rights: Spouses are sponsored as dependents but are barred from local Malaysian employment. They are fully free to work online for foreign/Indian clients.
No Local Cash Business: Avoid accepting local cash payments (MYR/SGD notes) for freelance services on the ground. Bill all clients digitally through your Indian firm.
